In light of all the romance news in the world of celebrities — the marriages, engagements, new couples, etc. — we figured the start of a new year is a perfect time to do some romance forecasting. And, better yet, the perfect time for our savvy readers to weigh in on the issue.

First up, the newly married. After seven years together, "Hot in Cleveland" star and Jenny Craig spokeswoman Valerie Bertinelli tied the knot with longtime beau Tom Vitale over the weekend. Another newlywed couple is Shania Twain and Frédéric Thiébaud, who capped their separate — and very public — 2008 marital woes with a very happy ending; Thiébaud, a Swiss executive, is the ex-husband of the woman with whom Twain's ex, Robert "Mutt" Lange, allegedly had an affair in 2008. And last but not least, longtime loves Nicole Richie and Joel Madden. The couple, who have been together for four years, have two children: daughter Harlow, 2, and son Sparrow, 16 months. We know these three couples aren't the only ones to have tied the knot recently, but which pair are you most excited about? Who will be together the longest?

Next up, the newly engaged. For those who've lost count, in the last two months or so, there have been eight celebrity engagements. Eight! Surely it's some kind of record. But thanks to relationship expert Amy Laurent, MTV News learned recently that there is a name for the phenomenon that sometimes triggers so many proposals and commitments: mistletoe syndrome. It occurs from roughly November through February, often brought on by the warm fuzzy feelings surrounding the holidays. It's not a race to the altar, of course, but in looking at the recently engaged couples, who is most likely to tie the knot first: Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson? Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth? Soon-to-be new parents Natalie Portman and Benjamin Millepied?

Now for some real speculation, let's take a look at a few long-term, newly hatched and potential lovebirds. Long term: Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake, who've been dating since 2007 (up until Monday, this list would have included Mila Kunis and Macaulay Culkin). Jake Gyllenhaal and Taylor Swift have been spotted together, as have teen stars Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez, but neither couple have confirmed a romance. Then there's the are-they-or-aren't-they speculative couple of the last couple years, thanks in part to their Best Kiss win at the Movie Awards in 2009, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.

Which of these couples' romances will survive the test of time? Who's headed for splitsville? Share your thoughts in the comments!
