Tom Cruise to Play "Rock 'n Roll God" in New Film

Tom Cruise to Play "Rock 'n Roll God" in New Film

Tom Cruise is ready to rock!

The actor has sealed the deal with the producers of the movie adaptation of Broadway's Rock of Ages. According to director Adam Shankman, Cruise is going to blow the audience away with his portrayal of fictional famed rocker "Stacee Jax."

"I think we're going to see him every drop the rock 'n' roll god! I'm very excited," Shankman told Access Hollywood. "He's so committed to doing it. He's pouring himself in this part in a way I've never had an actor do … it's pretty intense."

Cruise is reportedly taking voice lessons as he prepares to sing several songs in the film, including Styx's "Renegade," Bon Jovi's "Wanted Dead or Alive" and a duet of Foreigner's "I Want To Know What Love Is" (possibly with Anne Hathaway who is rumored to be up for the role of Sherrie).

Matt Weaver, who co-created Rock of Ages, is over the moon with the casting of Cruise.

"He's got an awesome voice! He’s got an awesome attitude," he said. "He's embracing it, he's getting into character, he's doing his research. He's ready to go back to 1986!"

Shankman also revealed that he's looking to get some other big names to sign on to the film.

"We are talking to Alec Baldwin and there may be some Russell Brand," he teased. "I can only say at this point that there may be, because the deals aren't closed."

Currently on a U.S. tour, Rock of Ages opened in Los Angeles last Tuesday. Cruise continued his research at Saturday night's performance, where he met the cast.
