LOS ANGELES - Former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger made a snoring noise and told a TV reporter he was bored by questions about his decision to cut short the prison sentence for the son of a political ally, angering the father of a murder victim.

The father of murdered college student Luis Santos said he was insulted that Schwarzenegger made a snoring sound last week, when he was asked about his last-minute pardon for a politically-connected youth who assisted in the knifing homicide at a San Diego State fraternity party in 2008.

"He's arrogant and insensitive," said Fred Santos, according to the Contra Costa Times newspaper in the Bay Area.

Santos lives in the East Bay suburb of Concord. Schwarzenegger was getting an award in Hollywood Thursday night when reporter Dave Bryan of KCBS/KCAL asked him about his pardon of Esteban Nunez, the son of former Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez, D-Los Angeles.

The younger Nunez had been serving a 16-year sentence for voluntary manslaughter and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon when the governor cut the sentence short.

On Thursday, with the CBS stations' camera rolling, Bryant asked the governor about the flap.

"Don't ask me the same question, OK, because otherwise you're boring the hell out of me,'' the former governor reportedly replied.

When Bryan pressed the question, the governor made a snoring sound.

Schwarzenegger's pardon caught prosecutors and the family of the victim, Luis Santos, by surprise. It was one of Schwarzenegger's last acts as governor and was criticized as a political favor to Fabian Nunez.

The governor subsequently apologized for not informing the family in advance, but the family angrily spurned the apology and Schwarzenegger has refused comment since.

And the comments to the CBS stations left the murdered student's family with renewed anger, the Contra Costa Times reported.

"To him, doing an injustice just to do a political favor to reduce a sentence for a murderer is trivial, like choosing to have orange juice for breakfast,'' Santos told the paper Friday. "It shows his true character as a person."

Schwarzenegger is a defendant in a suit filed by Santos that charges him with violating Marsy's Law, which amended the state Constitution to require that a victim get advance notice - and a chance to fight - any early release of a felon who affected them. That lawsuit is pending in Sacramento.
