A parolee who allegedly tried to rob a Sunland McDonald's and was shot and killed by a retired police officer was identified Tuesday as a Tujunga man.

Ryan William Reese, 26, pulled a gun in the fast food restaurant at 7950 Foothill Blvd. just before 11 a.m. on March 18 when a retired Burbank police officer and an employee accosted him in an attempt to subdue him, according to the LAPD.

During the struggle, the officer pulled his own gun and fatally shot Reese, police said.

Reese was on parole for grand theft from a person in March 2010, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. He was previously paroled in June 2009 on a burglary conviction. He served at least a year and four months for each charge, according to the CDCR.

Reese is suspected in at least two armed robberies of open businesses in the area along Foothill Boulevard that left patrons injured after being pistol-whipped, police said.
