Rihanna is lashing out at critics of her new music video for her track ?Man Down?. Check out her video here and weigh in with your thoughts!
Singer Rihanna?s music video begins with her gunning down her rapist and fleeing the scene.
Critics have spoken out against the ?Man Down? video, feeling it glorifies violence.
?Instead of telling victims they should seek help, Rihanna released a music video that gives retaliation in the form of premeditated murder the imprimatur of acceptability,? Melissa Henson, director of communications and public education for the Parents Television Council stated.
Paul Helmke, President of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, also condemned the violent images in the video.
?Pre-meditated murder is just as horrible and unacceptable as sexual assault, and we would hope that Rihanna and her music label would consider the potential impact of sending a message that violence should beget more violence.? Helmke said.
But Rihanna says it is art and touches on a very touchy subject close to her own heart.
?We just wanted to hone in on a very serious matter that people are afraid to address, especially if you?ve been victimized in this scenario,? Rihanna said on BET?s show.
Earlier this week, Rihanna tweeted to her fans that the video has a ?very strong underlying message 4 girls like me!?
Here?s Rihanna?s Man Down video:
